The first calendar year of Michael Johnson Performance led Solar Soccer training has come to an end as a huge success. The relationship between MJP and Solar SC initially started in the Spring of 2017, when MJP began weekly strength and conditioning training with Solar SC’s boys U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams. At that time, MJP was training more than 100 Solar SC athletes. MJP is now training more than 200 athletes, with the addition of the girls’ DA teams this Fall.
The Solar SC teams use the MJP team model of training. This model is based off a 75-minute per week training period, which includes dynamic warmup, power training, MJP movement training and strength and conditioning training
“We’ve packaged the best of MJP and are bringing it directly to them at their practice.” Bryan McCall, Director of Performance at MJP, said.
The relationship between MJP and Solar SC has grown over the last year to not only include weekly training, but MJP coaches have executed 30-minute speed and agility trainings at Solar SC’s summer soccer camp and MJP has hosted two Solar SC coaches’ clinics. In addition, there have been more than 80 athletes that have trained at the MJP facility in McKinney through core training programs and speed & agility camps.
“Our relationships with the MJP staff is very good,” Adrian Solca, Executive Director of Coaching for Solar Soccer Club, said. “It’s the best program in town for athletic development.”
